Large organisations usually have a facilities manager who takes care of not only organising a professional cleaning company but also all those routine maintenance jobs that will crop up from time to time in any building.
But how does the smaller business deal with all these extras when it perhaps does not have the budget or the volume of work to justify employing someone full time?
Most businesses will employ a professional office cleaning company to keep their premises clean, tidy and germ free but how many of them ask whether the company also offers other support services such as collection and recycling of waste or small handyman-type repairs?
As yet, despite wider awareness of the need to cut down on waste paper, we are still some way from the paperless office. There are times when having an actual printed document to refer to in the course of the working day is much more convenient.
But when it is no longer needed what happens to all this paper, particularly if it contains confidential information?
Waste and recycling are not only about paper. There are empty printer ink cartridges, electrical items, food waste, packaging and even broken furniture or outdated IT hardware.
As anyone who has ever visited a household waste recycling point will know, all this waste has to be separated, sorted and put in the correct skip.
Many local authorities now also operate schemes to encourage businesses to be green, to cut down on energy consumption, offering awards and badges that can be added to the stationary or the website, which can only be good for the business’ reputation.
It is worth asking your professional cleaning company whether it also offers waste sorting, removal and recycling services. If it does, does it also provide this service “on demand” and does it provide a certificate so that the company can demonstrate its efforts to be environmentally friendly and to cut down on waste.
For paper waste, does the company offer secure document shredding to protect confidentiality and can it tell you what happens to the waste it is collecting from you?
Another useful service to ask about is the handyman service. Usually a professional cleaning company that supplies handymen will not take on major renovation or complete redecoration projects, but the simpler routine maintenance of replacing light bulbs, repairing or fitting shelves, fixing a leaky tap, fitting a display board or mending a faulty lock should all be possible.
If you don’t know, or haven’t thought to ask your professional cleaning company if they offer such services why not give them a call? At CleanForce we offer all of the services your London office may require to comply with waste regulations, recycling and handyman services as well as our daily office cleaning services.
